DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A Dawson Creek school is adding five new classrooms for the 2024 to 2025 school year.

Crescent Park Elementary will add 115 more student spaces through an investment from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

“Crescent Park Elementary has served Dawson Creek students for generations,” said Chad Anderson, chair of the Peace River South Board of Education.

“This important investment gives future students in this growing neighbourhood the space they need to learn and succeed.”

The ministry is investing $156 million to add 104 new classrooms, or 2,535 new spaces, to 12 schools across the province.

According to the ministry, the classrooms will be prefabricated additions to get students into classrooms faster.

The additions align with the provincial government’s CleanBC targets with sustainable and energy-efficient designs that meet the energy requirements.

The new classrooms are expected to be ready for the 2024 to 2025 school year.

Since 2017, the B.C. government has invested over $4 billion in new and updated schools, as well as land purchases for more schools, resulting in 25,000 new student spaces.
