The event was preceded by a reception that invited local First Nations, government, industry, and community to learn about the Tse’k’wa National Historic Site and provide support through a silent auction.

Both events featured an open performance by the Doig River Drummers, who drummed throughout the evening.

Saskatchewan’s Cody Coverchuk was the event champion, with a championship ride of 86 points.

Alpha Bull President Chad Besplug concluded the evening by presenting Tse’k’wa Heritage Society President Garry Oker with a cheque for $45,000.

Tse’k’wa Heritage Society Executive Director Alyssa Currie says the society is incredibly grateful for Alpha Bull’s support.

“This event would not have been possible without the involvement of our First Nation partners, as well as our corporate sponsors, and all the community members who came out to support,” said Currie.

“Local First Nations people have participated in rodeos for over a century — it’s wonderful to see Alpha Bull honour that tradition and celebrate our Indigenous community by supporting Tse’k’wa.”

Alpha Bull’s financial contribution will support operations and capacity at Tse’k’wa — northeastern B.C.’s first and only national historic site.
