Dawson Creek RCMP investigating increase in shots fired reports

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Dawson Creek RCMP is investigating the increase in reports of shots fired throughout the city over the last several weeks.

According to BC RCMP Corporal Madonna Saunderson, over the next several days, Dawson Creek residents can expect to see a heavy police presence as officers work to identify the individuals responsible for increasing the risk to the public.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-BC’s uniform gang enforcement team will be in Dawson Creek, using a three-tiered approach of prevention, intervention and suppression to assist investigators in gathering intelligence and enforcement action.

Saunderson says other support units from around the province have also been called upon to assist.

So far, investigations have established the incidents appear to be targeted, and this type of violence is typically related to drug and gang activities or specific personal disputes, according to the RCMP.

“The Dawson Creek RCMP and North District Senior Leadership are engaged in the protection of the community as public safety is our number one priority,” said Assistant District Officer Inspector Steve McLeod.

The Dawson Creek RCMP encourages residents to report suspicious activity.
