FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A new mural has been painted at the Pomeroy Sport Centre through a partnership between the Fort St. John Arts Council and the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner.

According to Ryan Harvey with the City of Fort St. John, the community was one of four selected to commission a mural to continue the conversation around hate.

The piece is related to the hate to hope inquiry the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner did in 2021 into the rise of hatred in B.C. during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two artists from the Raven Tacuara Collective in northwest B.C., Facundo Gastiazoro and Stephanie Anderson, completed the mural last week.

Gastiazoro is a professional muralist with over 20 years of experience across the Northwest Coast and Argentina. Anderson is also a professional artist with over ten years of experience in Northwest Coast art, sculpture and design.

Harvey said the Fort St. John Arts Council will release more information in the future, and an official unveiling will be held next week.
