UPDATE: Dog rescued by Fort St. John firefighters after falling down embankment

A dog was rescued by Fort St. John firefighters Wednesday morning after falling down an embankment near the motocross track.

UPDATE: The dog is now in the care of the SPCA.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. —  A dog was rescued by Fort St. John firefighters Wednesday morning after falling down an embankment near the motocross track.

Crews arrived on the scene around 9 a.m. at a cliff approximately 100 feet high. The dog had landed on a ledge about 10 feet from the top.

Firefighters conducted a technical high-angle rope rescue, which involved rappelling down the cliff to retrieve the dog and bring it to safety.

The dog had no identification to determine the owner, and according to Deputy Fire Chief Matt Troiano, the dog had been passed over to bylaw before being brought to the SPCA.

According to the local SPCA, the dog is receiving medical attention in their care.
