DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A dangerous driver hit a police vehicle and a Jeep on Friday night after Dawson Creek RCMP members observed the truck nearly cause a collision in the Mile 0 Alaska Highway traffic circle.

Staff Sergeant Rob Hughes said the incident began shortly after 9:30 p.m. on October 27th.

After almost causing a collision at a traffic circle, the white GMC truck then stopped at 103rd Avenue, close to Highway 49. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle left at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle matched a description of a possible stolen vehicle reported earlier, said police.

A short time later, the truck was spotted a couple more times in the city before the vehicle passed by another police car on 104th Avenue at high speed and blew a stop sign on 103rd Avenue. Police activated emergency equipment but did not pursue the truck.

Another officer attempted to block the truck, but it instead rammed into the police car.

Hughes said the vehicle eventually left the city before coming back in and colliding with a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had a man and his granddaughter inside.

The individuals in the Jeep did not receive any significant injuries, said police.

The truck was confirmed to be stolen and registered to Alberta, and the driver was a man born in 1996 in Grande Prairie.

Hughes said the charges being recommended are impaired operation of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The man was released from custody on conditions and served a 90-day driving prohibition.

The man will appear in Dawson Creek court on January 30th, 2024, to face his charges.
