Local firefighters receive wage increase

The City of Fort St. John and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 2143 have reached a new three-year agreement.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 2143 have reached a new three-year agreement.

Through the new agreement, firefighters will receive a wage increase of 3.5 per cent for 2022 and 4.5 per cent for 2023 and 2024.

The city says there were also several housekeeping and collective agreement changes.

“Council is happy that an agreement has been reached with our local firefighters that recognizes the tremendous work they do to ensure the safety of our residents, businesses, and visitors,” said Mayor Lilia Hansen.

The agreement expired on December 31st, 2021, and negotiations have been ongoing over the past few months, according to the city.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to all the members of the negotiating team for providing the necessary leadership and support throughout this process,” said Matt Crompton, President of IAFF Local 2143.
