HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. — Hudson’s Hope RCMP responded to a report of threats to hunters legally allowed to hunt on Crown land last month.

It was confirmed that hunters, who were legally allowed to hunt in the area, had been confronted and accosted by residents already known to police.

After the hunters were confronted, the suspects reportedly left the area on a side-by-side and within minutes, the hunters heard gunshots firing off in unknown directions.

Hudson’s Hope RCMP said the report has become part of a larger ongoing police investigation.

The detachment responded to another incident on Crown land along Barkley Street on October 5th. It is unclear if the two incidents are related.

Officers were patrolling the area as it has been an area of contention for several police incidents over the past few months.

During their patrol, police located several homemade tire deflation devices, such as metal plates with large spikes welded to them, at the entrance to the land.

Due to the public safety risk, the devices were seized and removed.

According to the RCMP, the file remains open for further investigation.

Police advise the public to be aware of these and other “booby traps” in the area because of its frequent public use.
