FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Dawson Creek and District Chamber of Commerce announced it’s launching a weekly newsletter, which will begin publishing later this month.

According to Dawson Creek Chamber Executive Director Duncan Malkinson, the purpose of the newsletter is to keep chamber members and the community informed after the final edition of the Dawson Creek Mirror is published this week.

Last Friday, Glacier Media Group announced the closure of the Dawson Creek Mirror and Alaska Highway News after over 80 years of publishing in the Peace region.

Malkinson says although the newsletter has been an idea in the works for the last six months, the closure of the two media outlets has created a sense of urgency in the process of bringing the weekly publication to fruition.

“The recent news about the Mirror and the Alaska Highway News has accentuated the need [for a newsletter] that we’ve identified over the last little while,” said Malkinson.

“We’ve been amping up our schedule to make sure we’re getting the information out to the public.”

The chamber is encouraging Dawson Creek residents to subscribe to the upcoming newsletter and is asking local organizations to contact the chamber for information on partnership opportunities.

More information about the upcoming newsletter can be found by emailing info@dawsoncreekchamber.ca.
