FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — SJA Promo is asking residents to fill up a bag of items for the Fort St. John Salvation Army’s food bank.

The local business launched the 1 Person, 1 Bag food drive during the Salvation Army’s Humour for Hope comedy event at the Lido on October 6th.

Through the food drive, residents are encouraged to fill one bag with non-perishable food or personal hygiene products for donation to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

L.J. Lawson, the marketing and business development representative for SJA Promo, says the company saw the Salvation Army was facing a food bank shortage and began brainstorming ways to help.

“We thought if we can create these bags and get a buzzword out there, we’d be able to get more donations for the food bank than we’d be able to on our own, with our own staff, or our own corporate donation,” said Lawson.

Donation bags can be dropped off at SJA Promo, and each bag donated counts as an entry for a $500 prize pack.

Provided by SJA Promo, the prize pack includes a three-in-one wireless charger, water-resistant speaker, duffel bag, oversized blanket, 2024 planner, notebook, socks, water bottle, and hat.

Donors who drop their donation off at the Salvation Army directly are asked to publicly post a photo of themselves doing so with the hashtag #1person1bag. This will also ensure they are entered in the draw for the prize pack.

SJA Promo has 250 1 Person, 1 Bag themed bags available for pick-up to be filled.

“Once they’ve dropped the bag off, they can keep it if they want, or if they donate it back, we’ll just keep recycling them,” said Lawson.

“Or, what I like better is they can fill the bag, dump the contents in our buckets, and then give it to someone else and challenge them to fill the bag as well.”

SJA Promo is collecting donations until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 23rd, and the draw will take place on Tuesday, October 24th.

Details about the fundraiser and a photo of the prize pack can be found here.
