FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — BC Hydro has addressed misinformation posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, regarding the earthfill dam at Site C.

Earlier this week, an X user posted an aerial photo of the earthfill dam, stating there was a “large slide on the dam’s downstream (right) side.”

“BC Hydro & BC govt need to be transparent & answer questions. How serious is it? How will this failure be fixed, & what will it cost us?” the post read.

Energeticcity.ca contacted BC Hydro about the alleged slide, which Site C Manager of Public Affairs and Community Relations Greg Alexis said was an incorrect observation.

“We can confirm there has been no slide,” said Alexis.

“The Site C earthfill dam is stable, and work on the project continues safely as planned.”

Alexis noted that the image posted on X shows work currently underway to finalize permanent roads for the dam.

In September, BC Hydro said the Site C project was 80 per cent complete and on track to have all six generating units in service by the fall of 2025.
