FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — October’s exhibit at Peace Gallery North, Explorations, features encaustic painting, mixed-media and masks from Suzon Anne Tremblay.

Tremblay says she has only been working with encaustic since January but has enjoyed exploring the medium.

Encaustic, also known as hot wax painting, involves using a heated wax with coloured pigments added.

“I like all the possibilities I could do with that, and I’m making a lot of discoveries,” Tremblay said.

“There’s no specific theme because it’s mostly the exploration I did with encaustic.”

The artist says she has created over 100 pieces since her journey with encaustic painting began.

Mixed-media masks will also be on display at the exhibition.

“I had an exhibition two years ago, and I wanted to present my new masks that I made recently,” Tremblay said.

Previously a teacher, Tremblay retired two years ago to focus on her art full-time.

Though she has been involved in group exhibitions in Fort St. John, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek, her Peace Gallery North exhibition will be her first solo event.
