Area restriction rescinded near Donnie Creek wildfire

The area restriction for the Donnie Creek wildfire has been rescinded by the BC Wildfire Service .

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The area restriction for the Donnie Creek wildfire has been rescinded by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

As of noon on Friday, September 29th, the area restriction is no longer in place.

The Donnie Creek wildfire is still classified as out of control and grew to approximately 619,072 hectares after it absorbed the Kahntah River wildfire earlier this week.

It is suspected to have been caused by lightning on May 12th.

Pedro Roldan-Delgado, a fire information officer at the Prince George Fire Centre, said they have 25 contractors working on the Donnie Creek wildfire, three initial attack crews and heavy equipment on-site as needed.

In the Prince George Fire Centre, there are currently 45 active wildfires, and 383 are burning across the province.
