Stoddart Creek evacuation alert cancelled

The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has rescinded the Stoddart Creek evacuation alert based on recommendations from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

CHARLIE LAKE, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has rescinded the Stoddart Creek evacuation alert based on recommendations from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

As of September 28th at 2 p.m., residents are no longer under the previously issued evacuation alert.

The Stoddart Creek wildfire is classified as out of control at approximately 29,506 hectares. It was started on May 13th and is suspected to be caused by humans.

Though there is still an air quality advisory in Fort Nelson and Fort St. John, the air quality in Fort St. John is at a moderate to low risk, according to Environment Canada.

Environment Canada states precipitation may temporarily improve wildfire smoke.
