DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A cat has accidentally journeyed to Dawson Creek from Penticton via an enclosed trailer this week, and the South Peace SPCA would like to reunite the feline with its owners.

Jamey Blair, senior manager of the northern region of the SPCA, said an individual was driving an enclosed trailer from the Penticton area up to Dawson Creek around September 15th.

“When they arrived in Dawson Creek, and they were unloading, they realized that there was a cat hiding in the trailer,” Blair said.

The person who located the cat made attempts to find the owner but didn’t have any luck, so they reached out to the South Peace SPCA, which now has the cat in their care.

“We are hoping to see if an owner may come forward to reclaim this cat,” Blair said.

Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to locate the owner either, primarily due to the cat not having any ID on him or permanent ID such as a microchip or tattoo.

The manager said they suspect he has an owner because he seems fairly healthy and has been very friendly and affectionate with staff and volunteers.

“The staff and volunteers are enjoying lots of snuggles and giving him lots of attention,” Blair said.

“Likewise, he’s enjoying that too. He’s definitely social and very friendly with the humans that he’s been interacting with.”

Blair emphasized the importance of collars for cats, but also permanent ID and keeping the information up to date.

“Ultimately, tattoos, microchips, things that are permanent and stay with the animal, that is a great way to make sure that if your animal gets lost, they get home to you,” Blair said.

Anyone who recognizes the cat is asked to contact the South Peace SPCA branch via Facebook, phone at 250-782-2444 or email at southpeace@spca.bc.ca.
