TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — The area restriction around wildfires near Tumbler Ridge, known as the South Peace Complex, will be rescinded effective noon on Thursday.

BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is rescinding the area restriction due to reduced fire behaviour, and crews aren’t anticipating any increase in fire activity.

On July 2nd, the West Kiskatinaw River wildfire, part of the South Peace Complex, was classified as being held, and the Peavine Creek wildfire, the other half of the complex, was classified as under control.

BCWS would like to remind residents that both fires are still active, and caution should be exercised while near the fires.

Though the area restriction has been rescinded, officials still have the authority to order anyone to leave the area.

BCWS also warns the public that safety hazards are still present around the wildfires, such as damaged trees and ash pits.

To report a wildfire, call  *5555 on a cell phone, 1-800-663-5555 toll-free, or use the BCWS phone app.
