FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John has extended the campfire ban until June 16th or otherwise rescinded.

Based on the high wildfire risk in the area, the city chose to implement a fire ban within Fort St. John city limits to align with other prohibitions in the region, including in Taylor and Hudson’s Hope.

All open fires of any size are prohibited until noon on Friday, June 16th, or until the ban is rescinded.

In addition to a ban on any open fire, the following is also prohibited:

  • The use of tiki and similar kinds of torches;
  • The use of chimineas;
  • The use of outdoor stoves or other portable campfire apparatus without a CSA or ULC rating;
  • The use of fireworks and sky lanterns;
  • The use of burn barrels or burn cages of any size;
  • The use of binary exploding targets or air curtain burners.

Only CSA-rated or ULC-rated outdoor stoves or portable campfire apparatuses that use gas, propane or briquettes can be used during this prohibition.

All open fires are banned in the Prince George Fire Centre, where there are currently 23 active wildfires.
