U13 Predators bring home silver from Alberta Champions Cup

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The under-13 Northeast BC Female ‘A’ Predators brought home silver medals from last weekend’s Alberta Champions Cup in Edmonton.

After putting in a solid effort, the girls won their first five games, with games one and five resulting in shutout wins. 

Olivia Thompson was in the net for game one, and two goals from Lilah Dietz and one from Kali Lewis put the final score at 3-0 for the Predators. 

Jaida Morton was between the pipes for game two, which was a hard-fought battle for the Predators. Lylah Dietz pulled off a hat trick, and the game finished with a final score of 3-2.  

It was Thompson’s turn in the net again for game three, where the Predators finished with a 5-1 win. Emma Roy, Taylor Simpson, Carly Weins, Lilah Dietz, and Jenna Van Angeren each scored a goal in game three, and the Predators headed into game four undefeated in the Champions Cup.

Morton hit the ice to defend her team in the net for game four. Goals from Addison Ayre, Carly Weins, Ella Armstrong, and Addison Lenart gave the girls a 4-1 win heading into game five.

It was Thompson’s turn to goaltend in game five, where she earned her second shutout of the tournament. Although the opposing team outshot the Predators, goals from Dietz and Wiens gave the girls a 2-0 win. The team’s hard work earned them a spot in the gold medal game. 

In the gold medal game, Morton returned in net. The Predators fought hard but took a few too many penalties, which the opposing team capitalized on, resulting in a 2-0 loss for the girls. 

After a weekend full of hard-fought games and solid goaltending, the Predators returned home from the Champion’s Cup with five wins, one loss, and a silver medal.
