RCMP seeking witnesses in fatal hit and run on Alaska Highway

Yukon RCMP are looking for witnesses of a fatal hit-and-run that took place over the weekend on the Alaska Highway near Watson Lake.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Yukon RCMP is looking for witnesses of a fatal hit-and-run that took place over the weekend on the Alaska Highway near Watson Lake.

According to the RCMP, a 27-year-old man is dead as a result of the incident. 

Police responded to the collision, approximately two kilometres west of Watson Lake, after receiving a call around 12:10 a.m. on April 15th.

Currently, the Yukon RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Watson Lake detachment, traffic services, the Yukon Coroners Service, the Town of Watson Lake, and Liard First Nations are all involved in the investigation. 

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who travelled the Alaska Highway between Watson Lake and Upper Liard between 10:00 p.m. on April 14th and 12:10 a.m. on April 15th. 

Investigators also request that anyone with dashcam footage from midnight to 5:00 a.m. on April 15th between Watson Lake and Whitehorse contact the RCMP.

Anyone with information on the crime is encouraged to contact Yukon RCMP Major Crimes Unit at 867-667-5555 in Whitehorse. Contact 867-536-5555 if calling from Watson Lake or with the local prefix if calling from another community.

Fort St. John is approximately 894 kilometres away from Watson Lake. However, Fort St. John is the first major city centre south of Watson Lake along the Alaska Highway.
