American citizen pronounced dead after crash near Summit Lake

An American travelling on the Alaska Highway was pronounced dead on Saturday after a collision involving a car and a semi-truck.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — An American travelling on the Alaska Highway was pronounced dead on Saturday after a collision involving a car and a semi-truck.

The Northern Rockies RCMP received a report shortly after midnight of a two-vehicle incident on Highway 97 near Summit Lake.

When police arrived on the scene, the driver of the Mitsubishi was deceased, and the semi-driver had minor injuries.

Though the investigation is ongoing, evidence suggests that the northbound vehicle crossed into the lane of the southbound semi.

The family of the deceased has been notified.

According to the RCMP, the BC Coroners Service is conducting a parallel investigation, with no further details released at this time.

Summit Lake is located approximately 138 kilometres from Fort Nelson.
