NWJHL expands to eight teams for 2022-2023 season

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The North West Junior Hockey League voted the Beaverlodge Blades and La Crete Spruce Kings into the league at its AGM on Sunday.

Fort St. John Huskies General Manager, Jeremy Clothier says the addition of the two teams is great for the league.

“We’ve been trying to expand over the past couple of years, it’s exciting for the league growing from six to eight teams, that’s where we were about ten to fifteen years ago,” Clothier said.

Clothier says the two teams expressed interest in joining the league during the 2022 season. They then applied and sent in a presentation prior to attending the AGM to answer any questions the league had.

He adds that the expansion allows for more variety in game matchups.

“It just allows us to play against more teams rather than more games against the same team. We play fewer games against more teams,” Clothier said.
