FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – BC Hydro is doling out more than $12,000 to two local non-profits through its Site C project Generate Opportunities Fund.

The Pentecostals of Fort St. John are receiving $10,000 to renovate and furnish Grace House, which provides transitional housing and mental health support to women recovering from addiction. The renovations will give vulnerable women a safe place for nine to twelve months, according to a release.

The Fort St. John Public Library Association is getting $2,459 to upgrade its computer server. Vulnerable populations regularly use the computers in the library in the community to access the internet for free, and an upgrade is needed to continue to do this.

The fund was established in September 2016 to support non-profit organizations in the north and south Peace region while construction continues on Site C.

So far, 67 projects have received almost $600,000 from the $800,000 fund and applications for funding are accepted on an ongoing basis and funds are distributed quarterly.
