TAYLOR, B.C. – The World’s Invitational Gold Panning Championships will return to Peace Island Park after a two-year hiatus, just in time for the event’s 50th anniversary.

Taylor Mayor Rob Fraser says he’s excited to see the event return.

“As long as COVID cooperates and all the restrictions are off, we’re really looking forward to holding the gold planning event down in Peace Island park this year,” Fraser said.

This year’s event will be facilitated by the District of Taylor instead of solely by volunteers as it has been in the past.

“Before the gold panning was done, mostly by an ad hoc group of volunteers and the gold panners. They would get together with the committee every year, and they’d plan for and carry through with the event,” Fraser explained.

“We’ll still probably have a committee, but the municipality will do all the behind-the-scenes work that needs to be done, just to ensure that the event gets carried off.”

The event is taking place July 29th to 31st, starting with a parade to kick off the weekend.
