It may have been a bit late this season but snow is finally here in the Peace Region.

This means it will soon be time to hit the slopes.

Before you bust out your snowboarding gear or start waxing your skis, here are some of our favourite ski hills you need to check out this winter.


Bear Mountain Ski Hill


Located five minutes away from Dawson Creek, this ski hill is a local favourite. Its equipped with a T-Bar lift, snowmaking abilities, and an upstairs lounge with a great view of the hill.

It’s a great place to enjoy a few runs or relax indoors while your kids enjoy the great outdoors. You can even try night-skiing!

The hill is hoping to open its doors sometime near Christmas.

Big Bam Ski Hill

You can find this volunteer-run hill on the south side of Taylor, B.C. It’s great for beginners with runs that are 60 per cent easy, 35 per cent difficult and five per cent most difficult, according to

It’s equipped with a tow-lift that is capable of moving over 400 people per hour.

Big Bam is open all year round and hosts many activities in its offseason such as the Big Bam Vertical Slam and the Giv’r to the Riv’r mountain bike races.

The hill is currently waiting on more snow to be able to open its skiing facilities.

Powder King

Powder King is located in the middle of the Pine Pass, approximately two hours and forty minutes outside of Fort St. John. It boasts 38 marked runs with terrain appropriate for skiers of all levels.

The hill is equipped with a triple chair lift as well as two surface lifts. Skiing isn’t the only winter activity offered at Powder King. Check out the terrain park and take a few jumps on your snowboard or bring your snowmobile and operate it around the resort. Be sure to read snowmobile rules here.

Powder King is hoping to open by November 19th or 25th, depending on snowfall.

Nighthawk Adventure Park

Open year-round, this adventure park is located approximately 20 minutes outside of Grande Prairie. The facility offers numerous winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, and luging.

Nighthawk offers nine runs for skiers and snowboarders of all experience levels. They also have a triple chair lift, a Platter Lift, and a 100 ft. & a 600 ft. Wonder Carpet conveyor lift. All ski runs are lit to allow for night skiing.

The hill has a tentative opening date of November 20th.
