DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – In celebration of LGBT History Month, the City of Dawson Creek is flying the Pride flag in front of City Hall throughout October.
Throughout the month, the history and achievements of the LGBT community are celebrated.
Council approved the request from the Dawson Creek Pride Society on May 31st.
The month coincides with National Coming Out Day on October 11th and marks the anniversary of the first march for gay rights in Washington that took place on October 14th, 1979.
LGBT History Month was created by a Missouri high school history teacher, Rodney Wilson, in 1994.
