PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – The Northern Capitals U18 AAA team showed the Lower Mainland what hockey in the north is all about, taking both games against the Greater Vancouver Comets over the weekend.

In their game on Saturday, the Capitals cruised to a 6 – 0 win with the help of some NEBC Predators alumni. Hailey Armstrong tallied a goal and an assist, and Keagan Goulet got one helper in the victory. The Capitals outshot the Comets 40 – 12 in the season opener.

On Sunday, the Capitals continued to outpace the Comets in shots at a rate of 34 – 13, but they had less success in finding the back of the net.

A scoreless first period was followed by the Comets opening the scoring in the dying minutes of the second period. Trailing 1 – 0 in the third, Hailey Armstrong got herself involved by assisting all three Capitals’ goals, including fellow Predators alum Maria Ayre’s first of the season.

In net, Sierra Eagles stopped 12 of 13 shots in the win.

Coming out of the gates, the Capitals sit atop the BCEHL standings as four other teams have not played a game.

The Capitals will head south again next weekend for a busy slate of four games in Surrey; two against the Fraser Valley Rush, one matchup with the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers and one game against the Vancouver Island Seals.
