FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – An eight-kilometre section of the Halfway River has been reopened to boat traffic.

BC Hydro announced Thursday that the section of the river that was closed from September 1st, 2020 to April 30th, 2021 was reopened.

Hydro has cleared the vegetation to prepare for the Site C reservoir.

During the closure, temporary crossings like causeways were constructed across the Halfway River and backchannels to help provide access to and from the worksite.

According to a release from BC Hydro, boaters should be cautious in the area as there may be submerged or partially submerged hazards like large boulders.
