VICTORIA, B.C. – Regional districts across the province, including the Peace River Regional District, will receive a total of $10 million to support local services and operations as part of the safe restart funding.

The PRRD will receive additional funding from the COVID-19 Safe Restart by the end of the month.

The funding is part of the province’s ongoing work to give local governments the tools needed to provide residents with the essential services that they count on in their communities.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has changed all our lives and local governments are on the front line, which is why we have already delivered hundreds of millions directly to communities to support them through restart and recovery,” says Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “We’ve partnered with communities to deliver the critical services people count on, and now we’re further boosting support to regional districts to make sure we continue to reach people in every corner of British Columbia.”

The COVID-19 Safe Restart Agreement provides $540 million of direct support to local governments across the province to help their communities with the pandemic’s impacts.

In November 2020, the PRRD received $700,000 out of $415 million distributed by the province to 188 local governments to help with operating costs.
