VICTORIA, B.C. – The Northern Health Region added 52 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, dropping the active case count to 302.

There are 18 people in hospital, 10 of whom are in Intensive Care.

There were no COVID-19 related deaths recorded in the region, keeping the total at 109.

The Northern Health Region has confirmed 4,953 total cases, and 4,530 have recovered.

The province added 550 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, raising the active case count to 4,869.

There are 249 people in hospital, 68 of whom are in Intensive Care.

B.C. added two COVID-19 related deaths Tuesday, bringing the total to 1,393.

In total, there have been 85,119 confirmed cases in the province, and 78,770 have recovered.

British Columbia’s COVID-19 vaccination call centre received over a million calls in the first hour Monday, prompting frustration and finger-pointing from provincial health officers.

Telus is contracted by the province to operate the call centre.

Health Minister Adrian Dix says the process was flawed but he also blames Telus.

“Those call centre services were inadequate yesterday in spite of repeated promises to us,” said Dix.

Telus apologized for the rollout Monday and vows to ramp up services through the rest of the week.

Next week, seniors 85 and over can start booking appointments.

The online booking system will not be available in British Columbia until April 12th.
