FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – This week, October 4th to 10, is Fire Prevention Week and all three fire departments in the North Peace are sharing information to help prevent fires.
According to the Office of the Fire Commissioner, cooking is one of the number one causes of home fires and home fire injuries in British Columbia.
Captian Marco D’Agostino, Fire Prevention Officer with the Fort St. John Fire Department, says, “The COVID-19 pandemic has kept many of us at home more often this year, so this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme of Serving Up Safety in the kitchen is extremely relevant. Additionally, we want to remind you that working smoke alarms save lives. In the past five years, over 40% of residential fires in the Fort St. John area didn’t have working smoke alarms!”
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Fire Department is unable to hold any community events are visit the local schools to talk about fire safety. However, they did release a video -which can be viewed below- and have shared the following safety tips:
Along with the Fort St. John Fire Department, the District of Taylor has also released that due to the pandemic, they’ll be doing a Fire Prevention Parade on Saturday, October 10th, starting at 3 pm.
The District is asking that everyone stay home for the parade, and they will bring it to you. The parade will be travelling on ALL the streets of Taylor.
