Extreme cold to last at least through Monday

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – An extreme cold warning remains in place across the B.C. Peace.

The temperature should start to warm up in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John on Tuesday when the temperature should reach a high of minus 20. Until then, the wind and cold temperature will make things feel more like minus 40 and colder.

For Sunday night the temperature should drop to minus 32, but with the wind, it will feel more like minus 44. Things should start to warm up on Monday to a high of minus 25, but the wind will continue to make it feel even colder near minus 33.

The extreme cold warning also remains in place for the Alberta Peace and a number of areas in Northern Alberta. For a full list of the current weather warnings, click here.

A period of very cold wind chills continues.

Cold Arctic air remains settled over the Peace region. The cold air combined with light winds will continue to produce wind chill values below minus 40 until warming slightly to the mid minus 30s by this afternoon. Wind chill values will dip below minus 40 again tonight.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
