Lisa Miel sentenced for second degree murder of man in Taylor

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Lisa Miel has been sentenced after being found guilty of second degree murder in the death of a man in Taylor in 2015.

The Honourable Mr. Justice Meiklem handed down his decision on July 20. Miel was sentenced to imprisonment for life without eligibility for parole until she has served at least 14 years of the sentence. Miel is also prohibited for life from possessing any firearm, crossbow, restricted weapon, ammunition, and explosive substance.

Miel was found at the wheel of Kirk Morin’s pickup truck after being pulled over by police shortly before midnight on Sunday, September 6th, 2015. After Miel was detained by police, Morin’s body was discovered near the intersection of the Alaska Highway and Cherry Avenue in Taylor a short time later.

After being in court in early 2016 for several other unrelated charges, her murder trial began in Fort St. John on Monday, February 6th.

The trial also took place from February 15-17, 20-22 and 27 & 28, 2017.
