One dog killed by RCMP after alleged dog attack to protect public safety

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – One dog has been killed after a dog attack involving another canine.

On July 24 at 3:38 p.m., Fort St. John RCMP received a report of one dog attacking another dog in a park located at 118th Avenue and 105A Street in Fort St. John.

While police were responding to the call, they received more information that the owners of the two dogs tried to separate the animals but were not successful.

Other bystanders also attended the scene in order to assist but were also unable to separate the animals.

In a release, Sgt. Dave Tyreman said the officer that arrived on scene tried to initially stop the attack upon arrival but also couldn’t separate the animals. The officer noticed that both of the owners had also suffered undisclosed injuries.

RCMP say the officer was faced with no other alternative than to discharge their service pistol to protect the safety of the public.

The alleged offending animal died at the park while the dog that was attacked was transported to a Veterinary Clinic where it remains in critical condition.
