FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John has officially adopted the Parkland Disposal and Establishment of Parkland Reserve Fund Bylaw.
The City previously had asked for elector response to a pice of parkland in the BCR industrial park, should anyone be opposed to them selling it.
The City received 0 responses for he parkland being declared surplus to the City’s needs.
“The alternative approval process was advertised in accordance with the Community Charter. Electors had the opportunity to submit their objections to this property disposal between May 11 and June 22. There were no submissions received which is reflected in the Corporate Officer’s Certification of Alternative Approval Process Results for the Parkland Disposal and Establishment of Parkland Reserve Fund Bylaw No. 2383, 2017.”
The proceeds from the sale will be placed in a parkland reserve fund that can only be used to purchase land for park purposes.
“Staff will obtain an appraisal on the property and will publicly advertise the land sale in accordance with Council policy.
In accordance with Section 188 of the Community Charter, Council of the City of Fort St. John hereby establishes a separate reserve fund for the purpose of acquiring park land. The parkland reserve fund established under section 2 of this Bylaw must be accounted for separately by the City, and any money in the parkland reserve fund must only be used for the purpose for which it was intended, and in accordance with the requirements of the Community Charter.”
