Storm causes damage in Surerus Ball Diamonds

10 P.M. UPDATE – Environment Canada says at this point the pictures and video they’ve seen of the storm are inconclusive, they cannot confirm if what was seen by residents is actually a tornado. At the peak of the storm, wind gusts reached 70 km/h. The thunderstorm will continue for the next couple of hours before the front moves through the area.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The strong thunderstorm that started just after 7 p.m. Friday, caused damage at Surerus Ball Diamonds.

The storm caused damage in the park that affected some structures and walking paths. For now the City of Fort St. John is asking residents to stay away from the park while they assess the damage.

Fort St. John residents Geoff and Melanie Mason shared this video with Energeticcity.ca that shows the strength of the storm.

Energeticcity.ca has not been able to confirm what exactly is shown in the video above. We are waiting to hear from a weather expert with Environment Canada on what was seen by many people in the area of Surerus Ball Diamonds.

We also have reports that lightning hit a power poll near the intersection of 108 street and the Alaska Highway. Traffic lights are out at that intersection.
