FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer announced that he will be hitting the road for the upcoming Tour of the Peace ride next month.

The Tour of the Peace ride was started by Blizzard Bike Club member Dan Webster to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Webster was inspired to start the fundraiser after his son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in January, 2015.

Zimmer said that he has been a big supporter of the event since its inception last year. He mentioned the Tour of the Peace ride last August in the House of Commons, but said that this year he’s decided to support the ride by joining and riding with other riders from Peace Island Park to the W.A.C. Bennett Dam.

An avid rugby enthusiast and former coach, Zimmer said that he stays in shape during the winter months by spinning, and that he’s recently purchased a bike and gotten to practice with some of the Blizzard’s members. He added that he’s also completed the Emperor’s Challenge in Tumbler Ridge, which he said is a good benchmark for the 144 kilometre ride. “If I can do that, I can do anything. That’s what it feels like anyway,” said Zimmer.

The Tour of the Peace is taking place on Saturday, August 12th from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information, visit https://dwebster0.wixsite.com/totp
