RCMP searching for suspect in B.C. after altercation near Fairview

FAIRVIEW, A.B. – Fairview RCMP are searching for a suspect after an altercation Tuesday afternoon.

The RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision near Fairview. When officers arrived on scene an altercation occurred between police and the lone male occupant of the vehicle. During the altercation the police officer discharged his firearm.

The male left the scene in an unmarked police vehicle. The vehicle has since been recovered and the RCMP believe the suspect stole another vehicle. The second vehicle was recovered in the area of Dawson Creek, but the suspect remains on the run.

Peace River General Investigations Section is investigating the male’s suspected criminal actions. The Director of Law Enforcement has decided the RCMP Major Crime Unit North will investigate the police officer’s actions. Following that investigation ASIRT will review the police investigation. There is no indication that the male was injured during the altercation at this time.
