FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Fire trucks were on scene at a small but controlled fire on Sunday night.

Fire trucks could be seen on 104th avenue behind Shoppers Drug Mart in the evening.

Fire Chief Fred Burrows said that fire was caused by homeless people camping underneath the stairs.

“What it was is, that apartment building is old. There are stairs around the back and what happened was some homeless people had moved in underneath the stairs and had set a fire to keep warm.”

Burrows says they got ahold of the property representative and extinguished the fire.
