Updates of fires in the Peace region

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Here’s and update on the regional fires, from the City of Fort St. John.

The South Taylor Hill and Baldonnel evacuation alerts have been rescinded by the Peace River Regional District. However, some areas are still on alert.

Eight new fires started yesterday, and 43 fires are burning in the Peace region. The Beatton fire is the largest burning right now, with over 4,500 hectares consumed.

Hudson’s Hope has declared one Local State of Emergency, and issued one Evacuation Alert. Hwy 29 at the Halfway River Bridge is open and Alaska Hwy is open. Drive with caution as these areas are still smokey.

The South Taylor fire is under control, with structure protection being the focus.

Rose Prairie/Prespatou residents are self evacuating with a fire that has 100 hectares consumed.

Some Beatton/Blueberry River residents are also self-evacuating, as an Airport Road fire has consumed 4,300 hectares. It is considered a high priority location.

A fire in the Halfway River/Upper Cache area has consumed more than 420 hectares. There is no power or use of phone lines. There is also no manpower on this fire.

A fire is close to Wonowon, but there is no evacuation at this time. There are, however, downed power lines.
