18-year-old critically injured after shooting at Fairview college

FAIRVIEW, A.B. — An 18-year-old is in stable but critical condition after a firearm was discharged at Fairview’s campus of the Grande Prairie Regional College on Sunday night.

Just before 7 p.m., Fairview’s detachment members were notified to a complaint of a firearm being discharged at the local campus.

Witnesses told police that three male suspects were in a grey-green coloured, four-door car. The victim was taken to the Fairview Hospital, but police say he is expected to be flown to Edmonton for further treatment.

Later that same night, a vehicle matching the description of that given to investigators was found by the Grande Prairie Municipal Department. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit occurred, but was later called off due to the risk to the public.

No classes were in session at the time of the incident.
