Rural Advisory Committee reappoints ex-Dawson Creek city councillor

VICTORIA, B.C. — A former Dawson Creek city councillor is among those who were appointed for another two years on the Province’s Rural Advisory Committee, by Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations Minister Steve Thomson and Parliamentary Secretary Donna Barnett.

Kenny is the general manager of Community Futures Peace Liard and the executive director of the Northeast Regional Community Foundation. Living in northern British Columbia makes her well aware of the challenges that are faced by rural communities. As a former city councillor in Dawson Creek, she’s had an opportunity to build relationships with businesses and stakeholders alike.

The council provides advice on rural economic development, including rural access to capital and business development support for rural entrepreneurs and businesses. The council also advises on rural community capacity building, including the Rural Dividend.

“I want to thank the members of the Rural Advisory Council for their commitment and dedication to helping the Province support rural communities to thrive and prosper and for providing a strong voice for rural British Columbians,” said Donna Barnett, chair of the council.

Other communities represented include McBride, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Armstrong and Agassiz.

Members meet on a quarterly basis.
