FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — After an official announcement was made last summer, Fort St. John’s own Burger King restaurant officially opens its doors today.

“It’s been a lot of years in the making,” said franchise owner Trevor Bolin. “Now that we’re up, and people realize how different Burger King is from a lot of the other choices, and that it gives them a lot of choices locally, it’s going over very well.”

Part of the Gateway plaza, an Esso will also be part of the centre — along with other restaurants and clothing stores expected to be announced within the next month and expected to open later this year.

“It’s really done a lot for keeping people excited about what’s happening in Fort St. John.”

Burger King’s dining room is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. with a 24-hour drive-thru. According to Bolin, 45 local staff members have been hired.

“Whether you’re local, you’re travelling, you’re working nights, whatever it is, we can make sure we meet everybody’s needs,” he added.
