Flyers drop 6-5 decision to Huskies

TERRACE, B.C. – Thursday’s game against Whitehorse was bittersweet for the Fort St. John Flyers. The team lost 6-5 when they had a lead going into the third period, however they still have plenty to play for as they’ll be in tomorrow’s semi final game in either a rematch against the Huskies, or a rematch from Tuesday against Terrace.

The clubs were tied at two after the opening 20 minutes and as play resumed in the second Whitehorse took the lead. The Flyers quickly tied the game after and went out in front 4-3 with a goal just before the mid way point of the period.

The final ten minutes of the third were a struggle for Fort St. John. The Huskies drew even on the power play 13 seconds shy of the ten minute mark. The Flyers jumped back out in front with a power play goal of their own, but again Whitehorse would tie the contest only 35 seconds later. They’d go ahead for good with 2:01 left in the game.

Scoring for the Flyers were Adam Horst (2), Rick Cleaver, Josh Bostock, and Jeff Fast.

The final game of the round robin pits Terrace against Smithers later this evening. Should Terrace win then the Flyers and Huskies will play in tomorrow’s semi final game. A victory by the Steelheads would mean the River Kings and Flyers play in the semi finals. Regardless of tonight’s outcome between Terrace and Smithers, the Steelheads will finish in last place and out of contention for the Coy Cup.
