CEAA awarding funds to participants of Amisk project assessment

OTTAWA, O.N. — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making funding available to assist the public and Indigenous groups in participating in the environmental assessment of the proposed Amisk Hydroelectric Project on the Peace River in northwestern Alberta.

Through the Participant Funding Program, funding is available for eligible participants in the environmental assessment, stepping in on tasks including reviewing and commenting on the Review Panel Terms of Reference and the Environmental Impact Statement, and preparing for and participating in the public hearing.

Funding will also assist participants in commenting on the potential conditions that would be required, if the project is allowed to proceed.

The Indigenous groups that participate will also receive funding to participate in consultation activities, following the submission of the Panel Report.

Applications received by May 2 will be considered, and the recipients, plus the amount of funding allocated, will be announced afterward.
