Police investigate second case of arson at Grande Prairie restaurant
GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. — Police in Grande Prairie are investigating the second case of arson, or attempted arson, to happen at one business in about six weeks.
In the early hours of Sunday, February 28, RCMP responded to a report of a fire at the Mary Brown’s Restaurant in Western Grande Prairie.
A witness reported saw a flash inside the building and called 911. The Grande Prairie Fire Department attended the scene and extinguished the flames.
The restaurant obtained extensive damages as a result of the fire. Police say neighbouring businesses were not affected and no one was injured in this incident.
This Mary Brown’s restaurant was also the target of an arson in mid-January. Three suspects were seen on surveillance footage breaking into the business and set it on fire. The restaurant was closed at that time, and no injuries were reported in that incident either. RCMP did not confirm if these incidents are related.
Anyone with more information is urged to contact Grande Prairie RCMP, as the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
