Collision on Alaska Highway claims life of Yukon woman

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — One person has died following a collision on the Alaska Highway on Saturday night.

Around 10:09 p.m. that night, the Fort St. John RCMP was called to the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision at Mile 54 on the Alaska Highway.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers learned that a southbound van had collided head-on with a northbound tractor trailer unit.

The driver of the van, a 52-year-old woman from the Yukon Territory, was pronounced dead at scene. According to RCMP, the driver of the tractor trailer unit didn’t receive any injuries from the collision.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the collision, and it is believed road conditions were a contributing factor.
