Dust advisory for Fort St. John comes to an end
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Ministry of Environment and Northern Health have confirmed the dust advisory for Fort St. John and the Peace region has ended.
Air Quality Meteorologist Gavin King wrote in an e-mail that ‘changes in meteorological conditions’ are what caused the advisory to come to an end.
“While conditions have improved overall, dust concentrations can be dependent on local conditions and result in high concentrations in pockets,” he continued.
The dust advisory was issued yesterday just before 1 p.m. due to high concentrations of ‘coarse particulate matter’ that were expected to persist until there is precipitation to wash the particles away, or the streets are cleared of traction material.
Advisories were also issued yesterday for Burns Lake, Smithers, Vernon, and Golden. However, only the advisory in Smithers has ended, and the other warnings persist.
