Man arrested in connection to multiple robberies in Grande Prairie

GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. — A man who is believed to have a connection with robberies dating back to last fall in Grande Prairie is now in police custody.

On Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m., a man entered the RCMP detachment to discuss a routine traffic matter.

While in the building, police recognized him as the suspect in a recent incident that involved a stolen vehicle. He was then arrested without further incident, and more investigation by police found he was involved with more than that one incident.

RCMP believe he is also involved in six armed robberies in Grande Prairie, taking place between October 9, 2015 to December 6, 2015. The robberies occurred at the Liquor Depot, Winks Convenience Store, Crystal Spirits, and Mountainview Grocery.

41-year-old Shane Wyatt Embree of Grande Prairie now faces six counts of robbery, six counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of disguise with intent, flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Grande Prairie on March 7, 2016.
