Trackers and Storm battle to 1-1 draw

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Heading into Saturday afternoon’s tilt against the Grande Prairie Storm the N.E. B.C. and Yukon Trackers had a slim chance of still coming away with first place in the Bear Slashing division. While that may no longer be in the cards the Trackers did earn themselves a hard earned point in the standings as they battled the Storm to a 1-1 tie.

There was no scoring between the clubs in the first period, but the Trackers dictated the opening 20 minutes as indicated by their 14-5 advantage in shots.

With time winding down in the second Grande Prairie finally erased the doughnuts on the board as they scored first with just four minutes left in the frame.

Regardless of giving up a late goal the Trackers didn’t allow that to ruin the game for them as they would knot matters up early in the third with 15:51 to go. Down the stretch it was Grande Prairie applying the pressure as they outshot N.E. B.C. 17-7 in period, but they were unable to regain the lead.

The lone goal for the Trackers was scored by Keenan Halverson.

The team has one game left on their regular season schedule before the playoffs as they’ll close things out in Dawson Creek against the Big Lakes Thunder on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Prior to that the team will be taking part in a double header that will not count in the NAMHL standings on Friday and Saturday as they’ll be at the Chetwynd Rec Centre for games against the Prince George Tier 1 Cougars. Faceoffs for those games are slated for 8 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
