Cultural Centre to host Vagina Monologues this Friday night
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — For it’s 10th anniversary, the Fort St. John Women’s Resources Society will be running The Vagina Monologues at the North Peace Cultural Centre.
The doors open at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5 — and the show starts at 7 p.m. But, beforehand, there will be a selection of drinks, snacks, door prizes, and even a silent auction available to entertain.
“Everybody can enjoy it, it’s quite an enlightening show,” says Executive Director of the Women’s Resources Society, Amanda Trotter.
She says the Monologues came into inception after playwright Eve Ensler interviewed about 200 women about their experiences. Ensler also had a helping had in the V-Day initiative, to combat violence against women.
“The event itself increases awareness about violence against women, how women feel about their own bodies, how women feel about what men feel about their bodies, and part of it is about what men feel about their bodies,” Trotter added.
“Parts of it are very, very funny, parts of it are shocking. There’s someone in it for everyone.”
Tickets are $30, and are at sale at the Cultural Centre’s box office, or online.
The funds raised by ticket sales will benefit Women’s Resources Society.
